An engineer collected the electronic components needed to assemble the iPhone from scratch
An engineer collected the electronic components needed to assemble the iPhone.
Making an iPhone 6S for $ 300 is possible. This was confirmed in a video of the engineer and former employee of Google, Scotty Allen.
To achieve this feat, Allen visited the Chinese city of Shenzhen and toured distributors of electronic components until he found all the necessary parts and advice.
The engineer chose the iPhone 6S because of the large number of spare parts available, compared to the iPhone 7, for example.
To mount the iPhone, Allen used four basic parts: screen, battery , logic board and casing. One of the big challenges was to make the Touch ID work, since doing it from scratch is quite complex.
He mentioned in one of YouTube comments that the parts he actually ended up using cost him around $300 but he already had $1000 worth of extra stuff, tools, etc.
