These are the steps to follow to contribute to the largest “free encyclopedia”.

With more than 290 editions and more than 40 million articles in more than 250 languages, Wikipedia is an online and collaborative encyclopedia that contains the largest collection of knowledge in the history of mankind.
Created in 2001 by the Americans Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, the “free encyclopedia” is characterized because it can be edited by anyone, anytime, anywhere.

Here is the procedure for creating a new article.

1. Choose the language

The Wikipedia homepage displays the different editions of the encyclopedia in some of its multiple languages. Choose the language in which you want to write.

2. Register

Once you have entered the site, at the top of the screen you will find the options of “Create account” and “Access”. If it is your first time creating content, you must register. Choose a username and password.

3. Select the item

Make sure the article you want to add to the community has not been created before. Look for the topic of your interest in the browser of the page. If the article does not exist, you will get a list of search results. Check that the article is not written under a slightly different name.

4. Write

If you searched for the article without obtaining results, the site will show you a red link to create it yourself. Click on the. There you will find a large empty box in which you enter the text. Write a brief introduction and then the main body of your article in different sections, depending on the topic. Do not forget to include references.

5. Publish

When your article is ready, you can select the “Show Preview” option at the bottom of the text box to see how the article will look before you post it. If you are satisfied with the result, also in the lower section you will find the option “Publish the page”.

Rules

  • Assign the information to its corresponding sources, which must be reliable (academic publications, university textbooks, journals, journals, etc.)
  • The content added must be relevant.
  • Paraphrase instead of copying textual information from other sources.
  • Write from a neutral and unbiased point of view.
  • Do not write self-promotional articles.
  • If you think you have a conflict of interest with a particular issue, do not create or modify an article.
  • Use free-use images.
